Damn it, why is it monday again???

I am tempted to move the recap to monday officially, but knowing myself, I might end up writing it on tuesday, then. :p

In all seriousness, I should probably write this early in the morning or in the afternoon, to avoid skipping on it because I feel tired at night, as it happened yesterday. Anyway, I did some more work on the so called "part 2" of the final quest, and it's almost done. It's shaping up to be a lot like "classic" mc adventures (as I mentioned in the previous post), where you explore a small environment, and you need to dodge a trap or two along the way, while you find your way to the next area. It's a bit different, because part 1 does change some of the stuff you'll find, and in what order (there are 3 entrances to this area, and there are other elements that affect the experience, so there should be some little nuances to keep things fun if you play it more than once), but the main experience should be similar for everyone. It also means that having played through it once will make it much easier, since you'll know the traps by then. I wonder if I should randomize them a bit, but honestly, it feels like a gimmick, rather than an interesting twist in this case, so I probably won't.

This part also got me thinking more about usage of gifs in RAGS games. I mean, I just recently figured a "decent" way to make them work, so obviously their use wasn't planned and right now I place them whenever I feel like it, but design wise, it's probably a sloppy approach. Maybe in future games I should try to figure out if I want them attached only to particular situations, rather than just mixing them with normal pictures, as it is right now (for example use them only during endings, or during hypno scenes).

I still haven't figured out if I want one ending for all the traps and for losing the "non-boss" fights, but it would seem reasonable to just go with one ending, and just change the way you get to it, so that there is some variety, but it's also logical and consistent. Since this is the final quest, I figure losing here will also need to address how badly things go for your crew if you lose, since you could expect them to try and rescue you (and fail, because, well, final quest bad end). This might even be part of the "slave paths" (getting a rescue party), though, so I am still mentally taking notes, to see if something strikes me as particularly good. Maybe I could have losing to one of the early traps force you on the hardest slave path, but then it would feel like people with high indoctrination have nothing to gain by trying their best during this section, so I am not sure. If I can figure out something, this might still happen, but as you can tell, it's still up in the air, considering I still have to finish part 2, and part 3 of the quest (sorry, I really can't think of a way to refer to them that isn't spoilerish, so I just call them "part x").

Anyway, that's it for this week. The quest got some sexy content, some insights on what kind of villain you are facing, some not-quite-puzzles, so all in all I feel we are doing good. See you next week! ^_^

  1. It would be cool if your "rescue team" in case of failing is affected by the relationship points you have developed with your crew. A low-relationship Darenzia could ditch you, while a friendly One could rush to your side... In this way, losing in any trap wouldn't be an insta-game over, but you could still have a chance to save the day ;)
    Only my two cents

    1. I am not sure the relationship system is developed enough for this, sadly, as it was pushed on the backburner as development went on, and even if I'll probably do something with it, I'd rather keep it there for less important stuff.

  2. Great, just had a longer post on a possible idea for something, but it seems like the comment vanished when I pressed the blue button...grrrr, so this is just a test post and when I see this published I will just cry a little bit and then post my idea again. If it does not get published, well then...nobody will ever read this. Huh.

    1. So...great OF COURSE this one has no troubles...argh. Okay, I just post it again, who cares. But I will keep it a bit shorter.

So why not add a special ending to the game? I like the rescue team idea, if you fail and everybody gets a big bad horrific(but of course highly sexy)ending, But what about if we add a bit of "Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission" to the mix? So for example if you succeed in both Darenzias and Janes "personal missions"(so actually solving all the puzzles and not just become a porn star & saving Janes friend without "breaking" her) and have a high enough personal score with Piper(as she has no personal mission)(or just leave her out as she is optional) than the rescue mission actually does succeed. Of course the game would still be over and Celeste would still be broken or whatever you have planned for her in the bad end(ings), but unlike the clear bad end which probably would end with (sexy fetish fueled) slavery until she dies...this one would be the "bittersweet" ending where your friend save you. Still broken, but your friends are around and try helping you regain some sort of life...even if you are broken beyond repair. This is not an ending most people would even want, as it is not the highly sexy bad end we come to expect or is the good end that lets us keep playing, but the game would recognize that the player did succeed in the personal missions and now your friends would "pay you back." Plus, a kinda more "secret" ending is always nice.

I would of course understand you if you hate the idea or would just hate to add something like that, as the game is already big enough with so many variables. But this idea jumped into my head and I just wanted to write it down.

Anyway I really look forward to this final mission, take all the time you need.

    2. I already have an idea for how completing the side-quests can help you, so I'd rather not add more to them. I kind of like the idea, but I don't think I'll go for it, I have my hands full already as it is. :(

  3. Oh! I thought something very similar to Xander and Cloud above. (Pats Cloud's back for the missing post that got ate.) But I'd still love me some more lore, fluff, and mentionings of yellow-clad women. ;P

Man, I really got to getting around to playing the latest release. Also, figuring out Dar's side-mission. I only touched on it briefly a while back and got stuck...
(Wow, really got sidetracked trying to find image galleries of aliens that could exist in TotDC.)

    1. Yellow-clad women are everywhere, won't somebody think of the children???!

Am I doing this right? :p

why not fail Darenzia's side quest, and go for a career as a porn-star, instead? I mean, what's the point of me putting that one in the game, if everyone tries to ace the quest afterward. XD XD XD
