It's not the next big thing, but it's a start

So, I ended up writing lines for ALICE for this quest, after all, and I think that this is how the quest will ship to the testers, sooner or later (I might change a few things about it after the thing gets tested, but for now I won't mess with it anymore).

I have been doing a lot of picture hunting, but I had really bad luck, so I wasted a lot of time and in the end I had to ask someone to help me on a specific matter (thanks, Alectra!).

Since I also didn't have as much time as I wanted (my internet connection had some troubles), I didn't do a lot of work on the game... BUT! I actually decided I am going to do another quest, instead of more work on the relationship thingy, and it should be a good one, as I have a lot planned for it already.

It's also going to kill two birds with one stone, as I am going to merge an old quest with one that I discussed with a donor as a some sort of reward for his generosity, Parad0x (which donated another 50$ last week, so I would totally start to feel guilty if I didn't do this now... ;p). This isn't just a gift to him, though, the quest is well planned, and I have found a way to integrate it seamlessly with my older idea, the pirate guild (some might have found the currently unimplemented hook for this line of quests in the game already). I just had this sudden inspiration to make things go a certain way, and I am sure this quest is going to be really fun for me to make and for you to play.

After this I should go back to relationships, before I start losing track of the various ideas I had over time for them, but for now is questing time once again.

P.S.

Am I forgetting something? I feel like I am forgetting something... Oh, well, since I can't remember what it was, get this picture instead.

Don't you love it as much as I do?

P.P.S.

I finally got around to watch the first Star Wars movie (yeah, I know, I joined kind of late to the party). While it is a good movie, I honestly can't see what all the fuss is about, I don't think it makes my top 50... Does that make me a bad person?

  1. You have to look at it in the sense of when it was made. The original star wars movies had many innovations and plot that we now think as old or contrived but were good for there time.

Keep up the good work on the game. :)

    1. Well, I love the Marx brothers movies, so I know what it means to look at something from the past and accept its limits, but a few scenes really feel forced and contrived even considering that. I am not saying it isn't a good movie, but that maybe they get praised beyond their real merits... Or maybe I am just getting old and preachy, who knows? ;p

  2. Ciao MDQP :)

First Star Wars is a good saga, and you have to watch all of them 4,5,6 and then 1,2,3 in that order. Call it to weird Lucas he doesn't know how to properly count hahaha

Maybe is not that great of a stunt, and the actors are horrible most of the time, but there is a special feel to it and probably more to the people of that time. I like them no matter what.

Now your welcome and call for my help anytime you want :)

And if you are forgetting something, well yes, the deadline for this project duh! hehe

    1. Do you suggest to watch the prequels too? I didn't hear anything particularly flattering about them.

And I liked the first one, but I found a few scenes and dialogues goofy, even important ones, that's why I felt the need to get this off my chest.

Eh, eh, you shouldn't offer your help so willingly, or I might try to take advantage of the situation! ;D

What's a deadline? My english is failing me right now... ;p ;p ;p

  3. I will say - and recognize - that the third prequel is shit. Utterly, blasted, ginourmous amount of shit. SHIT!

but the first one is good and the second is not so bad. So be safe at least with those two. Besides and because Jar Jar Binks hahahaha. Nuff Said.

Anytime really, even with throwing out ideas I'm good too!

And a deadline - I'm surprised you don't know about it - is a "scadenza", so Per favore, andiamo subito alla fine del gioco presto! ;) - My Italian is a bit crude yet, but I hope you did understood it :) -

    1. I will give them a chance, then.

I will give you a call if I need your help again, then! If you have ideas, feel free to share them anytime.

I was feigning ignorance, I know what a deadline is! Now you forced me to use one of the lines I hate the most: it's going to be released when it's ready (see, doesn't that bother you as much as it bothers me? Because I hate that answer, even when I am the one writing it).

Your italian is good enough, maybe a word or two could be changed with more fitting ones, but the overall message is clear. :)

  4. mdqp,

i support those who i believe have the potential to make something good. I like your work and i certainly enjoy seeing the fruits of your labor as things progress. So i see the money that i donate well invested. Once again i thank you for all of your hard work and giving me something that has kept my attention, By the way i finally got around to testing the new version. I do enjoy the relationship concept, i feel it certainly has potential because character developement is the biggest thing in a game, book, movie the more you learn about their love interest the more you learn about them. I do think though that the potential for negativity should be increased as Celeste strikes me as a rather... rambunctious woman ending up in some "unfavorable" situations that could place potential tension on the relationship.

Haha, but the developement is growing and i love the creativity you've brought to us, this game is definitly on part with the Rough Landing series and Bodyworks as well as Space Ditz. I look forward to what you give to us in the future.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, hearing someone cares this much for what I do means a lot to me.

Yeah, that's the main reason relationships were introduced, as they are a big part in everyone's life, and it gives a lot of ways to deal with character development. To be truthful, sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't work better if I moved the relationships to the second chapter of the game, whenever I get around to make it, because the way the plot is built, it feels a little too carefree to have dates and all that, but so far the response from my testers (and you) has been good, so I think I will keep it. There will be ways to spoil things between you and your "special one", but I must admit that Jane will probably be sheltered, compared to Malena and Piper, because I can't have her leave the ship, or have a completely ruined relationship with Celeste, because I can't dump the whole plot management on Darenzia, so to speak. There are a few ideas on how to handle this, though, and we'll see if they work.

Rough Landing 1 & 2, Bodywerks and Space Ditz certainly are some great games (RL2 is my favourite one), I really hope to do something as good as them.

  5. For the starwars thing:

When it was made nobody expected a si-fi movie to be anything but bad. They actually had so much trouble getting it into theaters the producers said they could only have this other movie (supposed to be a blockbuster but was a flop) if they also showed star wars.

It was the first si-fi movie to even make money, and proved that si-fi movies were a viable thing to make. The movie also didn't spend a lot of time explaining how all the droids worked, what the moisture farm actually did, the repairs Luke did early on. It just kind of kept going which was also completely unheard of in futuristic movies.

It doesn't seem all that amazing because of all the impact that it had on other movies since then.

    1. But this can be said for a lot of movies and tv series. For example, Seinfeld. I don't like it because it introduced a new sub-genre in sit-com, but because it is great on its own.

I don't feel the same for Star Wars, at least the first one. It's a good movie, but not a great one (of course, this is just my opinion).
