Fixed!

All the bugs reported for the public release have been dealt with, so here you go:

http://mdqp.nachtwolf.at/Tales%20of%20the%20Drunken%20Cowboy%20-%20Chapter%201%200.8g.rag

As far as development goes, I didn't do very much these days (as you can imagine). I did add some minor things to David Kane, though, so now picking him over Cody grants you the ability to buy some good upgrades, at least (I should add at least a quest from him, but for now this should be fine). I will probably be lazy for another week, and then I'll go back to development as usual.

Also, I forgot to mention this last time, but I got a 12€ donation by M.C. (thanks a lot, man ^_^).

This should be everything, for the moment. Keep reporting any bugs you meet, in case I forgot/added some of them. Have fun! :)

The web version is out again! You can download it from the link to the right, as usual.

  1. I like cranberries. I would also like to see more fanart for TotDC. Make it so. (As my Googlefu is not so good.)

    1. Eh, I wish I could just wish fanart and make it happen, but that's up to the artists, not me. :)

    2. I thought you were a master of manipulating minds and bending them to your will and, dare I say it, even /enslaving/ them. Some might even call that... "mind control". Such a silly and vague term when clearly you do much, much more. I mean, what happened? Why can't you just *make* people create fanart? What? Did you break one of your subliminal commands within your game during the last update? Did your government tell you to remove those hidden messages? Do they only work when certain conditions are met? I /suppose/ I could follow the command, but since I'm aware of its existence the art I create is just above interesting scribblings... Also, fish is good.

    3. Nah, if anything, I am the slave, not the other way around. :p

Then! As my first command which goes back to the first point:
I like to see more fanart for TotDC. Make it so! :P No game updates until this is done! :D :D :D
(Yeah, I know, I'm rolling the dice here with the other users.)

    5. Well, me being the slave doesn't necessarily mean you are the master, especially since I am more into "mistresses" than "masters" (yeah, yeah, I am very picky, what can I do? :p).

It's up to people, of course, we'll see if your plea will reach them. :D

  2. I'm having trouble downloading this newest update right now, it just says "Connecting" or whatever indefinitely, is there anything I can do?

  3. I think I found bugs to report. When you return to Kantor and that quest starts with the bracelet and the natives and all that, after the quest is over you're back at Europa 4, instead of being on Kantor. Or is it meant that you never actually made it to Kantor? Also, when you pay Darenzia the 5000 for that guy on Maltik, it automatically places you back on Europa 4 again.

    1. Another one, when you talk to Dreyfus on Maltik and you say "No" to the kidnapping quest, you're asked about him doing tests on you, and then it asks again when you try to leave his office.

    2. You go back to Europa 4, as you never got to Kantor, and Europa 4 is the closest planet to go back to.

Paying Darenzia doesn't place you anywhere, you can give her the money wherever you like and it will simply allow you to get past the guard at Dreyfus' skyscraper, on Maltik.

Getting the question from Dreyfus again is a bug (you should be able to refuse by walking away, but not if you already refused verbally), and it's fixed now (we'll see if anything new pops-up, and then I'll upload a new version, hopefully for the last time).

  4. Is it possible to load save from the previous version (0.8f) with this one? When I try it asks if I wish to load the save with the current loaded game (0.8g), but if I answer the name of the window says it is version 0.8f.

I tried making a new save and rebooting Rags, but if I try to open said save it still says it is from a different version, meaning it actually refused to open with the correct version in the first time.

    1. Sadly, I don't think it's really possible to load a save file from an older version of the game, it is a RAGS limitation, so nothing I can do about it, sorry. :(

Even if you managed to load one, you probably wouldn't be able to see the fixes, so it's not really worth it.

    2. Alright, thanks for the prompt response. Now I won't feel bad about cheating :P

  5. Any word yet on the web version?

    1. I am uploading it right now, it should be ready soon. It's the main reason why I bought a new RAGS license right now, so hopefully it is worth it. :)

  6. It'd be great if you add bad.. well, bot ends, but routes. Extended questlines, where Celestine was enslaved and has to enslave her crewmates as well. NTR theme and all that.
And, my personal request - make some bad ends a bit more interactive, please. Mission at Boss' mansion, for example, write some actions during the day - including with Boss' niece ;) - and loop them.

    1. The idea is to at least have a couple of extended endings, where you keep playing even after being enslaved. Of course, since those take time to make (they are more or less like a quest, depending on how long I want them to be), I haven't really worked on those so far. I have already a lot on my plate, so for the moment I probably won't be adding them, but I hope to do so in the future.

  7. Help! Rough Landing 2 [Rags].
I'm sorry for the bad form, but I hope you (mdqp) don't mind me asking about a different game as you or another user suggested this earlier and I can't seem to reach the forum nor can anons post in the Rough Landing blog.

Can someone please, pretty please, tell me how to beat Nikolai as (Guard) Captain Jenny? He's... he's just kicking my ass... (Using Rough Landing 2.076.)

    1. Damn, it's been a while since I last played it, so I am not sure anymore. I believe one of the available backgrounds at the beginning of the game had a fighting advantage, so she probably can do that. Anyway, you don't actually need to beat him, and if you are just having trouble getting past him after you kidnap Guame, there is an easy way out, as long as you used the holo-belt on Guame before trying to leave your room.

    2. Well, I'm trying to go through it as Captain Jenny. I have the transformative scenes disabled; thus, no belt. (That's good insight though as I thought about changing Guame too.) Bypassing Nikolai isn't as important as trying to acquire his Cyber Shades--to access the IDI codes needed for the ship. ...unless, of course, there's ~another~ way to snatch said codes that I'm unaware of. Thanks for responding. Still need help however. ^^"

    3. I believe the cyber shades aren't a requirement, but as I said, it's been a while. You should probably bring this up in the thread over at the hypnopics collective, I am sure they know the answer there.

  8. Halp! Halp! How do I do things quick enough to avoid detection in Breanne's quest? :(

I've been thrown into jail so many times they may as well rename the prison after me.

    1. First of all, remember that you can hide in certain rooms, so you can take your time once you either reach the office, the archives, or the empty office. It should easy enough to pull it off, as long as you get out of hiding as soon as the guard is gone, and start working on getting the key right after.

      Delete
    2. You cannot hide in the office or the archives. So this quest is technically impossible even if you know exactly how to solve it unless you have super clicks and turbo mouse to jump around the continue button, the 3 sub-menu and the navigation.

    3. Why are you answering in the comment section of a post that is more than 1 year old?

Are you playing the web version, or the RAGS version? Do you have the 2.4.14 player? I can hide (the action is in the room), so I have to figure out why you aren't getting the option (it might be a random RAGS bug, which means you might have to load a save before the mission starts).

  9. Is it possible for the future to say what ragplayer you used for the Game.

With the newest player 3.020 I have a lot of mistakes (Version1.08f) so I look on your site again and see it give a new Version 1.08g.

    1. I use the 2.4.14 version of RAGS (0.8g refers to the game version, not the RAGS version). If you look to the right on this blog, you can see a list of links, and it also states which version of RAGS I currently use.

If it isn't noticeable, I might have to add the info somewhere else in the blog.

  10. Is it possible to meet Dreyfus without paying? Or you are locket out of the mission if you don't have the money?

I ammased the necessary amount easily, but that is only because I sided with Parad0x when I had the chance. I believe that if I haven't such incredible source of money I wouldn't be able to pay.

    1. The amount of money you can possibly make in the game is actually impressive, as long as you do the side-quests, 5000 credits should be no problem at all. I will probably come up with something, to avoid people getting stuck (probably an option to give up on meeting him entirely), but honestly I believe that it will be almost impossible to not have the money, especially once the game is finished.

    2. You can make an impressive amount of money, but you can spend quite a lot as well. I believe I have done all quests available and bought everything that I could buy (which doesn't include the matching rings) and I ended up with "only" 4000. I believe I received 6000 total from Parad0x so, yeah, I don't think I would be able to pay to meet Dreyfus.

Of course, a lot of the money sink is optional, so it would be my damn fault to neglect saving enough money. Still, it would be nice to not get stuck for lack of money, even if I had to just give up on Dreyfus altogether.

      Delete
    3. Well, as a general rule, you should always take care of the important expenses first. :p

But you are right, as I said I'll make sure to give an option to give up on Dreyfus, if players are too short on cash (or if they are just stingy). Bear in mind that the game isn't finished yet, so there will be more money to add to that pool, so everything will probably work out just fine.
