Nothing to report, sir!

At least, almost nothing. Since the new RAGS version come out, I have been testing out a few new features, I have been changing some of the old stuff in the game (mainly, since I can now remove the "cancel" option from the menus, I removed a LOT of loops commands that were rendered useless by this feature), I have completed the first date you can have with Jane (I wasted some time because I wasn't 100% sure on how I wanted it to work), and added a basic event that will probably be re-used in future dates with Jane. It's even more boring than how it sounds. I wasn't really inspired this week, so it ended up being lazy from the development side.

I might also get involved in another project, regarding a game from another game maker, so we have been discussing how it would work between us, sharing some ideas, etc. It's still not 100% sure, so I am not making any announcements, for now.

Anyway, I should start to work some more on Jane, and at least finish a couple of dates, add another step in the relationship (possibly adding some sex scenes between her and Celeste), and then think what I want to do, probably add a way to ruin the relationship, break up, and if things go particularly wrong, add a bad end. And then start working on another relationship, so that I can setup the interactions between them.

  1. A collaboration with another game maker? For gods sake, I hope it is not Lydia.

    1. Actually yes, that was the idea. Though after thinking about it, it might be best if I just help her with beta-testing and other stuff, taking a more active role would end up taking too much time, and splitting the effort between two games might be a little too much for me to handle. Do you have any problems with her?

    2. I have no problems with her, just with her awesome talent to turn her usual good ideas into boring, unlogic (and for her last game confusing) nonsense. She seems to have many fans for reasons beyond my understanding. But that´s not the point. The point is that you are an excellent game author and your style is really different from hers. All your games are really good while all her games are really boring, I feel you would waste your time with working on game with her. I read on the Collective that she plans to make the story and text for her next game and you would do the programming, is that correct. That is a bad step, you would just play her coding slave while she wants to play around with Renpy. She certainly smirks to herself that she found someone who does the hard work for her. It does not matters if she asked you for help or if you made the proposal yourself, it is really selfish of her to accept YOUR help, all the while she knows pretty well that you are a permanently active game author occupied with your own projects. She has years of RAGS experience, if she does not succeed with her Renpy experiment she can return to RAGS herself, if she really wants 2 working versions of her game she shall do both on herself or find another coding slave who does not have some hot iron in the oven. I am sure there are people amongst her fans that can do the coding and don´t have their own projects to attend. Please don´t waste your time with coding a game for someone else who is clearly able to to the work herself. Helping her with betatesting and constructive feedback that you can do safely without loosing so much time for your own projects. I would not object with that, even though I don´t like her works everyone needs beta testers and someone who keeps your feet on the ground.

    3. I happen to like her last game (though I will admit that it has a few problems with the flow of the story, at times, I will say that it is a great game, in my opinion), but I might understand if you don't like it.

It's true that our styles are different, but I don't think working with her would be a waste of time. Her post on the Collective is my fault, because I agreed before really considering how much time it would really take away from me (in my answer to your previous comment, I told you I was unsure, but I had already told her I was fine with it. Only after some working on my game and taking into account some real life stuff I recently had to deal with, I realized it would be better to just offer support from the outside).

I wouldn't play coding slave for anyone, I have a mind of my own (I will leave my personal fetishes outside of this! ^_^).

Me and Lydia are friends, and I have to ask you to stop accusing her of doing things out of malice (you might not like her games, but I doubt you know her enough to make such assumptions about her intentions. I can assure you she is an incredibly nice person, if you get to know her).

We talked about this and I accepted doing it, because I like the original idea, and we even discussed long before this about working together on some game. Since we seemed to share a common interest for this idea, we decided to give it a go, that's it.

The part about having 2 versions being a little pointless is part of the reason I decided to take a step back and just help with beta-testing and suggestions (it was an idea born out of finding a solution to a certain dilemma we had. I am not going to write here everything me and her discussed before, but it wasn't completely out of place, at the time).

Beta-testing and feedback is basically what I am going to do, probably.

Look, I get that you are writing this because you like what I do enough to fear for what would happen if I took a wrong turn along the way, but it's still not a good reason to act like this against Lydia (I guess you are basically accusing her of fooling me to get what she wants, correct me if I am wrong).

We are all grown-ups, and we are responsibles for our decisions, and you are talking to me as if I am a being scammed by her, while I can assure you that's not it.

In case you are wondering, the thread on the forum hasn't been updated yet, because Lydia isn't online everyday, so communication between us can be slow, but she'll probably write something about this, when she gets the private message I sent her (I didn't feel like posting just to tell people I would back off was right without at least telling her first... After all, I had agreed not too long ago to do this).

    4. I did not "act like this against Lydia" anywhere. All I did was straying some random sarcasm/irony (never know the difference) that you probably did not get because I did not included emoticons. I did not defamed or flamed or attacked her, nether did I accused her of anything. Think about it, maybe you just overreact a tiny little bit because there might be some tiny little bit of fanboyism involved? Would that thought be so wrong?

That´s no problem, it happens to all of us the one or the other time. Maybe I am just your selfish little fanboy who does not want anyone to steal precious time from his favorite game author with mundane things that can be done by anyone with decent coding skills and has gone over board a bit with his dislike for the possible situation. Who knows. If that is the case I apologize for leading you down the never ending road of random rage.

    5. No rage, don't worry! ;)

It's hard to convey one's emotions over plain text, so I guess I over-reacted, as you say, so if I got you wrong, then everything is fine now, misunderstanding cleared, we can share a beer and a bro-fist, right? :D

I felt like someone was bad-mouthing a friend, so I tried to make it clear that I wouldn't accept such a thing. Since you tell me that wasn't the intent, everything is cool, but I hope you understand why I didn't get this at first.

  2. You know how this game starts, with Celeste narrating her story and all of a sudden we hear this tape being rewinded noise when Darenzia butts in? I had a moment like that just now, after chuckling to your praises for the new RAGS version and while I was reading the comments in the RAGS forum about the new beta release.

Did you just tied your next release date to whenever RAGS 2.4 is going to be released? I really hope not, because who knows when it will get out of beta. It could be next month, or it could be next year! Please say it is not so.

    1. No, why would I do that? I usually use the latest version available (which usually is a beta), but I don't wait for this or that release (for all I know, it might come out once my license expires, so I wouldn't even be able to get the update). I like what was added, though, as a few of those features were suggestions I did a few months ago, so I have been doing some testing to see how it works.

    1. And thank you for your kind words and generous donation! ;)

Will you be completely out of reach for these months, or will you still be able to get back online, from time to time? Anyway, I wish you a safe travel, hopefully, I'll have something interesting for you when you come back!
