Back in the game

So, I have had my rest, and now I am slowly getting back in the game. I might have mentioned this before, but I decided to add the final part to the main quest, before doing anything else, so I have been working on the intro for it, which triggers after you recruited (or failed to recruit) the 3 persons Darenzia mentions as VIPs that could help you with your little problem. I also added the last dream sequence to the game, and I decided to make this one reference some of the stuff you can do during the game. It's entirely possible the scene will be a bit bare bones if yours was a "straight" playthrough, but it should be interesting, regardless. This dream will trigger together with the intro to the final quest, because the travels are just too cluttered, having yet another essential scene there would be too much. I think the structure I have in mind for chapter 2 will give me more leeway to handle events on travels, but that's still far in the future, so right now it's just a hope, more than anything else (and it relies on me not changing my mind, which isn't a guarantee).

And this should already be everything for this week. I have been away a little too long, so I am not sure if I am forgetting anything that happened a while ago, so remind me in the comments if that's the case. Anyway, see you guys next week, I hope you are enjoying the game (and that you aren't finding any more bugs)! ^_^

  1. It's exciting that you're finally rounding out part 1's story. Looking forward to hearing more.

  2. How long do you estimate will it take until ver 1.0 release?

    1. Months for sure, it depends a lot on my free time, which can be outside of my control from time to time. I think once I complete the main quest and add Piper's side quest, I'll be able to guess with at least some accuracy. Right now I wouldn't really know, it's hard to tell.

  3. Good to hear it's coming along. BTW does the rubber chicken have any uses yet? I feel like an idiot keeping it with me but my Monkey Island experience is saying you never know.

    1. Right now, it's little more than a funny reference (if you try and sell it to Hamlin, I flat out mention Monkey Island), but I would make sure I keep it with me, maybe I'll make it useful in chapter 2, who knows? ;p

  4. I actually had a quick question. While playing the game, I'd reach points where if i clicked one option, the game wouldn't let me click anything more, until i reloaded the page, and reset the game.

Would those points be a programming error i should make note of, or are they unfinished parts of the game?

    1. I assume you use the web player. If the player becomes unresponsive (freezes) it is a problem with either the player or the game data. Unfinished parts of the game would still allow you to select other actions.

Please describe what you did before the freeze and if possible the error message in the error console (ctrl-shift-j in firefox f12 in ie and then select console)

  5. When trying to infiltrate the police station, I will click on one of the options, and will lose the ability to do anything else, until I hit the refresh page button, reloading the game.

The two other points that imidiately come to mind are, on the mystery planet the bracelet takes you to, when attempting to knock out the guard with anything but the drugged needles, and when attempting to open the safe, during the mission with the porn movie for Darenzia.

I was playing the game in a Firefox browser, so that could have been it too. I have the .94 download from your blog. I didn't know I could generate an error message to tell you, I'll check for one when I have the game in front of me.

    1. Did these errors happen with 0.94? At least two of those (police station and the safe) sound like we have fixed them already. Please try to recreate all of them with the latest version of totdc and make note of the exact options you choose before the freeze. If the game freezes try to get the last error message from the console as described above.

      Thanks for your help

    2. okay, no idea how this happened.

I thought i had .94, i remember when i first downloaded it seeing the rags and web version available. looking at it on my hard drive though, its .92.

sorry about the mix up, as i could have sworn i had .94.

... I'm going to go beat my head against the wall a few times.

If i see the errors i'll report them, but i guess they were fixed already.
